Smoking can be a tough habit to break–especially after being a smoker for a number of years. If your friends and family members also know that you want to stop smoking, you should fill out a contract with them. This way, you’ll have someone to be accountable to, and this may help you to stick to your commitment. Keep a copy of your contract with you at all times, and make sure that each loved one involved has a copy as well. After you sign the contract, throw out all your lighters, cigarettes, and ashtrays.

If you want to stop smoking naturally, it may also be a good idea for you to change your schedule around. This way, you can avoid situations where you would usually smoke. If you smoke around certain friends and family, try to adjust the amount of times that you are in social situations with these people. Instead of using your lunch break to smoke with friends, try getting some exercise in. When your body gets used to doing something different, it becomes easier to stay away from smoking.

You can also put up ‘no smoking’ signs around your home or car. When you see these signs in public, it’s a reminder that you have to stop smoking–at least for a short period of time. Putting up the signs will help you to have the same reaction no matter where you are, and will trick your mind into thinking that smoking is not allowed.
